If youāre seeking a midsize SUV thatās roomy, comfortable, and packed with handy features, try the new Toyota Highlander. This three-row SUV has ample space for your family and all their stuff. The new Ford Explorer and the new Honda Pilot are about the same size as the Highlander, but theyāre not as well-rounded as the Toyota. Firelands Toyota created the following comparison to show Sandusky drivers why the Highlander comes out on top.
Cabin Design
The new Toyota Highlander has a handsomely designed interior with a tiered dash and ergonomically arranged cockpit controls. Base models have cloth upholstery, while higher trims have simulated or authentic leather seats. Families in Sandusky will appreciate how roomy the Highlander is, with 42 inches of front legroom and over 41 inches of second-row legroom.
The Ford Explorer has too many interior plastics, unsightly panel gaps, and mediocre design details. It also has just 39 inches of second-row legroom.
The Honda Pilot is full of quality soft-touch plastic materials, but its design is a little staid compared to its rivals.
Performance
The new Toyota Highlander comes with a 295-horsepower V6 engine that has plenty of zip for keeping up with traffic in Sandusky. It also earns a thrifty, 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway in models with front-wheel drive.
The Ford Explorer comes standard with a 300-horsepower four-cylinder engine. However, it only gets 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway when properly equipped.
The Honda Pilot comes features a 280-horsepower V6 engine. Its most efficient setup returns only 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
